Wayne County drops charges against cat-rescuer.

Alternative title: Wayne County gets oxygen to the brain turned back on.

Charges were dropped Tuesday against a North Carolina woman who took in 27 dogs and cats for owners who had to evacuate due to Hurricane Florence.  Tammie Hedges, the owner of donation-based rescue center Crazy’s Claws N Paws, was charged with 12 counts of practicing medicine without a veterinary license after allegedly administering antibiotics and ointments to animals.

The statement from the DA suggests a prior, probably exasperating history with Ms. Hedges — which I suspected at the time, so go me.  Regardless, there are some fights you don’t start, and at the top of that list is “the people holding the brave little bedraggled kitten.”  I have sympathy for anybody who has to deal with, ah, interesting members of the community; I have none for people who decide to arm-wrestle with a buzzsaw. Seriously, man, that was always going to backfire on ya.

“…in light of her taking advantage of a dire situation to solicit money and opioid narcotics…”

This is not just jay-walking. The DA should have led with that.
