I give them full points for not trying to avoid the horror.
Vampires eat people. This is established. There are no attempts to get around it. …So, now that we’ve established that this is going to be dark comedy, let’s get going with that, shall we?
I think that this is smart, because it’s how you distinguish a show like What We Do In The Shadows from, say, The Munsters. Not that there was anything wrong with The Munsters. It was a sitcom, it was funny, people had a good time. But if you try to do a ‘lovable vampire’ show in the modern day it’s gonna crash and burn and leave behind a billion sarcastic comments over-using the word ‘sparkle.’ Might as well lean into it.
A real shame I don’t have cable, but it’ll stream eventually somewhere.
… Were they recruiting larpers as their food source? That is either awesome or insulting. Then again, I’m sure every hobby has some of those people, who you just wouldn’t miss if they vanished.
I took it as being awesome AND insulting.
Heh, they got the guy who played Sanchez on “Garth marenghi’s DarkPlace” to play one of the vampires. Nice.
