Because Unforgiven is a great movie, that’s why. And I’m reminding myself that I should watch it again. When the kids aren’t around, of course.

I remember watching Unforgiven for the first (and only) time. I have never rewatched it, because I am not sure I could ever get that same feeling again at the end, knowing it is coming.
I can see that.
Don’t forget there’s also a Japanese remake with Ken Watanabe in Eastwood’s role where they change the location from Montana to the wild country of Hokkaido in northeast Japan in the aftermath of Meiji Restoration.
The Eastwood original took place in 1881. The Watanabe remake probably took place in 1871 (about 10 years after Meiji Restoration).
…Well, sh*t. I did not actually know this.
After Meiji Restoration, samurai class is disband, and they either formally joins the government or must surrendered their weapons. Not all of the samurai took this well. Watanabe plays one of the samurai that fight on the losing side of Shogun regime, thus was declared outlaw.
