French inventor Franky Zapata has successfully crossed the Channel on his jet-powered hoverboard for the first time.

He took off from Sangatte in France at 7.15am and landed in Dover around 25 minutes later.

Via @iowahawk. The problem is that the hoverboard still only has 10 minutes’ worth of flight time, which simply isn’t enough (dude had to refuel at a halfway point). But we’re getting there!

The Wright Flyer barely reached ONE minute of sustained flight on day one.

Yes, but I don’t want to use the Wright Flyer to fight supervillains.

…OK, yeah, that came out silly. Of course I do want to do that. I just don’t think that it’d be practical without a longer flight time.

  This would work for any number of chase situations, especially in heist movies: use it to vault a wall (or train) or cross a canal, etc.
