It was nearly thirty years ago that the University of Idaho decided to exploit students by “booting” cars parked on public streets if they didn’t display a university parking permit.
Pay the fee, or pay a lawyer (at a much higher cost) to have it removed.
They didn’t have the right to do it, but…

There was one glaring problem with that plan (besides basic morality).
Rednecks own tools, are proficient in their use, and traditionally have a bad attitude towards temporal authorities.
I recall the university president being rather upset about having to walk to work.
The dean of students had a garage, but he was awfully late getting home a time or two.
