In lieu of writing anything, because screw it I had ribs and a beer and I was chilling for once. Anyway:
- WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (vampires doing a reality show documentary in Staten Island) is bloody, ahem, hysterical. It’s really hard to balance this kind of comedy with the essential horrific aspects of the genre; you want to like them, but they eat people. They’re managing, though. It’s fun.
- MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM (alternate history where witches are elite soldiers for the US military when they’re not being extremely bloody terrorists fighting Western civilization) is very, very strange. I mean, this ain’t CHARMED, unless CHARMED had more scenes of witches learning how to weaponize tornadoes*. It’s got a ton of funky world-building in it that they never, never explain** and barely even slow down to reference; but, judging from the slightly baffled commentary from some of the Usual Suspects, it might be worth further observation. Just as soon as the next episode comes out***.

*And if it did I wish somebody had told me about that ahead of time.
**My own dear wife laughed when I commented on the relative lack of explanations. I can’t imagine why.
***No binge-watch. How exceedingly… retro.
I think you’d like the “American Craftsmen” series by Tom Doyle — he lives in DC, and I met him at Balticon last year. If you want to try it and don’t want to pay the exorbitant hardcover price, I can loan you my copy of the first book by mail.
