The kids have less than a month left in school, and now suddenly they’re talking about having in-person graduation ceremonies, which feels surprising. Good surprising, except: what are the kids gonna wear? At this point I declare victory if I’ve got them wearing pants and a shirt, and consider it a minor miracle if they don’t complain too much about socks.
Lotta infrastructure stuff like that, really. My SCA barony is having an event for the first time in over a year, and I’m doing spreadsheets on who has a tent or a pop-up, and where I need to assign them on the list field. I’ve got a convention to vend at, and I need to find somebody to watch the table while I go pee. We have a list of things around the house that need doing. It’s ever so slightly annoyingly weird, mostly because none of this was unusual before the pandemic and I don’t like the faint aura of unreality. The sooner everything’s back to normal, the better.
Oh, and we saw a couple of cicadas today! …Ehh, we may have been talking up this entire thing a little. So far, so underwhelming.
I am likewise unimpressed by the cicadas this year. We saw a few holes a couple weeks ago and have seen a few actually come out of the ground this week, but they haven’t been anywhere near the prophesied apocalypse.
To be fair, we’re just now having the kind of Maryland May weather I typically associate with Maryland in May.
