Snippet: MOUTH.

Dunno if this is going anywhere: I had the thought this evening, and wanted to get the beginning down before I forgot it.

The supermarket isn’t safe anymore. They’re starting to show up there, too. I saw a monster there for the first time today. I mean, like, up close and personal. Almost scared the piss right out of me, too.

This one was a female, about forty (monsters age about the same as we do), and regular clothes could fit her. She might have even been good-looking, if it wasn’t for the horrible, twitching gash right across the lower half of her face.

Yeah, I know. Except for that. She was peering at vegetables, just like a human being would, and that was good. It gave me enough time to get hold of myself before she noticed me. I didn’t dare attract attention. Not here, not now. And it was my own damn fault for not being prepared, too.

Sure, I’ll admit that. No excuses. It was just that the supermarket had been a refuge before, you know? Even after things started changing, you could still go there and pretend everything was normal. So I had let my guard down, gotten sloppy, and now I had only a moment to try to pull it all together.
