This is part of the Kickstarter rewards: somebody paid good money to have a character introduced, and I wanted to get her fixed a little in my head.
I would have shouted for Gina, except that I knew she’d already be there when I slammed Oft’s gurney through the doors. No need to yell for someone when they’re going to be right there, you know what I mean?
Gina grabbed the other side of the gurney and started pulling it towards a vibro-medtech station, already set up and ready to go. I let her — it was her sickbay — but asked, “Somebody call ahead?”
“What? No.” Gina shook her head. “I always keep one powered up. Just in case.” She looked down at Oft. “This one of the Council guys?”
“Yeah, but he’s a good guy.” Not that Gina would care. Hippocratic Oath, and all that. “Got banged up pretty good from a not-cow accident.”
That earned me a suspicious look, and not the one I was expecting. “Uh-huh, Pam. What about his aura?”
“What about it?”
By now we were at the station; Gina was already prepping Oft, her long, brown fingers carefully placing various crystals at spots on his chest, neck, and arms. “I know how physical trauma radiates, Pam. See how the wrist sensors are pulsing? That suggests she touched something evil.”
I peered. “No, Gina,” I said after a minute. “I can’t see anything.” Then I looked at her face, entirely free of converted Amalgamation medtech. “And without the goggles, neither can you.”
Is Oft male or female? Paragraph 4 and 5 you say “he” and “his”. Second to last you say “she”.
Supposed to be ‘he’ throughout. Ach, well, first draft.
