  1. Grinding is the video game version of practice. The act of writing your story “Grinding” is in itself an example of grinding. Like all of your other stories, you’re putting words together to form unique packets of meaning. And with each story, you feel a little more capable of conveying your vision to your readers.

You type the same keys and produce many of the same words, until you suddenly hit upon some new idea, situation or story structure. When you do, you’ve leveled up and acquired a new skill.

It’s kind of “meta” if you think about it.

    1. Purgatory as a meta leads to one of my favorite heretical ideas – Purgatory is just people going through life, right next to us, with the difficulty set higher and with no way to level up without completing one particular quest…. grinding their way to heaven.

Both the idea of purgatory and the idea that purgatory is all around us are heretical, but as an atheistic cat, not something I have any guilt about.

p.s. Moe has been practicing for a long time and is showing signs of significant leveling up ahead.

        1. I concur.

The general hopeful position Moe takes appears to come straight from the golden age of science fiction, despite the dystopian scenery.

One of the reasons I enjoy Moe’s work.

p.s. compare Tinsel Rain to, for example, Mike Massa’s River Of Night …
