Adam Driver as Reed Richards?

Interesting.

Following months of Marvel Cinematic Universe rumors, a new report reveals that Marvel Studios has offered Adam Driver the role of the MCU Reed Richards, should he accept.

According to the latest episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, Above the Line’s Jeff Sneider was asked about recent reports that Driver was being eyed to be the MCU Reed Richards in a Fantastic Four film. Sneider not only confirmed the rumor but noted that from what he had heard, the role had essentially been made his to turn down.

Of course, since even I’m not as sanguine about the MCU’s chances of not messing up this movie as I used to be, I’m now wondering if they’re going to screw it up somehow…

PS: I know, I know: I’m usually an optimist about these things. The Fantastic Four is a different kettle of fish, though. They keep messing that IP up.

  1. Adam Driver is the new Josh Hartnett. Products keep shoving him into things with Harrison Ford and other big actors but he’s completely unlikable.
    I just don’t get it.
The go to explanation used to be that the male ingenue obviously performed… services in trade, but Driver wasn’t young enough for that and was never attractive, so unless he does the REALLY kinky stuff, I’m at a loss.

    1. Hmmm.

      Krasinski as Reed Richards.
      Driver as Johnny Storm.
      Jason Beghe as Ben Grimm.**
Gina Carano as Sue Storm ***

Not sure who to cast as Von Doom **** though.

** because the role is about having a distinctive voice and being able to emote a bit …

*** because she’s more believable as Driver’s sibling and an action scientist …

      **** see ** above

  2. First thought: Who?
Second thought (After a quick search): Why?

Seriously, what’s the argument FOR this casting?
They’re essentially asking someone who could be a decent Eddie Haskell to play Ward Cleaver.
This goes beyond tone deaf, and approaches deliberate sabotage. It just screams that the producers/director/writers don’t care about the canonical F4 family dynamic, and are looking to be “subversive”.

    It’s going to suck.

    1. Yep …. I suspect either Driver has expressed a desire to be a good guy for once… and Fantastic Four has struggled enough they’re willing to risk him not being able to achieve anything heroic … or they’re going with some subversion.

      Meh.
