The Critical Drinker discusses the end of the superhero movie.

There’s brutal, there’s really brutal, and then there’s The Critical Drinker’s “Indiana Jones – Destined to Flop.”

I think he’s right, and I also think it’s a shame. I like these stupid, bloated, convoluted superhero flicks. I like sitting in a theater and watching them play out on the screen for a few hours, turning off my brain and just enjoying the spectacle. Alas, I’m often doing that in a half-empty theater these days, which is symptomatic of the larger problem, really.

Oh, well. Movies will reinvent themselves, at some point. They always do.

  1. “People don’t gamble hundreds of millions of dollars just to make a few million back. They spend big because they expect to earn big.”

That was true when greed and fiduciary responsibility were driving forces. Today it’s more about virtue signaling, though. I’m not so sure the studios care to earn anything as long as they proselytize the Progressive Religion. Think I’m wrong? Just look at the garbage Disney has been releasing.

    1. Including the movie in question.
When you have to go back and refilm because the test audience starts gathering torches and pitchforks…

(My daughter asked if I’d like to go to it. She was surprised at the vehemence of my response.)
