SAG-AFTRA goes on strike.

Interesting bit at the end, there:

Contract negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP broke off tonight, and the guild’s national board will meet Thursday morning to formally approve the launch of a strike.

It will be the first actors strike against the film and television industry since 1980 and the first time that actors and writers have been on strike at the same time since 1960, when Ronald Reagan was president of the Screen Actors Guild.

…because you don’t often hear about the Gipper’s tenure at SAG. Turns out the union brought him in as president specifically so that he could nail the studios’ hides to the wall on movie residuals for actors – and then Reagan did. There’s a reason the man’s gubernatorial ambitions were taken seriously.

PS: Oh, the strike? I dunno, man, I don’t watch much television and it won’t affect my 2023 movie viewing schedule much. If you need entertainment, feel free to read one of my books?

  1. May the strike be long, ugly, and painful.
All the more for people to lose their taste for TV and movies and to give them time to find other forms of fun.

    1. From your keyboard to the feeds of whatever deities may exist…

Hollywood is rather late to the.. diversification of entertainment.. due in part to internet technology …

If you want an analogy, go find a copy of the kids book “Rainbow Fish”… each current star has much less shine than in the old days .. because there are so many more stars now.

      Sucks to be them.

  2. Can the writers’ strike be extended to the gaming market? That would also yield results to my liking.
