We are OLLLLLLLLLLLLLD
on this day in 2003, a looping flash animation known simply as "Badgers" was uploaded by Mr Weebl, forever changing human culture by ushering in the era of what some call "random internet humor." this video is 20 years old today, scare a millennial in your life with that factoid pic.twitter.com/wFSWjANj2k

Oh. This. I don’t like this.
The original version is not nearly as memorable as the version I first encountered, which had multiplying badgers turning into gestalt spiders walking across the screen.
This was why we have Baby Shark. It was the Cthulhu birth moment.
It’s really clear that JAB over there is only *somewhat* old, and does not know his history. “Badgers” didn’t usher in a damn thing. All Your Base had it beat by two years and change, and even *that* wasn’t the first. The Really Big Button That Doesn’t Do Anything absolutely qualifies as “random internet humor”, and that thing came out in the (late) 90s.
