I… might want to watch Megalopolis.

I’m a little surprised, honestly. Francis Ford Coppola’s spent just a little too much time over the last few decades submerged in an Everything You Do Is Awesome field, and it has had some little effect on his movie runtimes*. But MEGALOPOLIS might be of interest.

From the video description: Megalopolis is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

It’s not every day that you see somebody take Cataline’s side in that particular conflict. Interesting.

*Yeah, yeah, I know: I have libeled the man via insufficient adoration, and will now suffer the wrath of his fans. Fine, I’m a philistine. Always have been, really.

  1. Come to think of it, Cataline has had the “He was just horrible/don’t look closely/there’s nothing to see here” field projected onto him that was used on the Gracchus brothers.
(I still remember Jay Nordlinger damning the Gracchi. I am shamed that I took it at face value, and walked away thinking I’d learned something. That piece remains one of the most intellectually dishonest things I’ve ever read.)

  2. Critique away on FFC – no man is above a dissenting opinion.

You won’t catch me ever spending money on Emo Jedi Boy though. Ever.

Something about his very face busts my buttons.
