I was wondering what the angle was for letting AI homunculi on Meta, but it’s obvious: including fake eyeballs in your traffic boosts your traffic numbers, and thus ad rates.
Relatedly: stop buying ads on Facebook and Instagram.

The Dead Internet Theory continues apace, where all that remains is bots Beep-Booping to each other.
I don’t think it’s about ad revenue.
I think it’s about manufacturing consent.
The only real purpose to LLMs that I see, is propaganda generation and distribution.
Meta has a history of censoring some viewpoints while aggressively pushing others, sometimes at the direct request of the federal government.
This is more of the same, but louder and more blatant.
Content generation and the attempt to maintain “engagement” in a way that preserves their audience (“users”).
I think it is a downward spiral for Meta from here on out.
