Except for my annual pledge that I won’t be doing anything for April Fools’ Day tomorrow. I’ve got nothing against that tradition, I just don’t follow it anymore. I dunno why.

Reality has become so cynical or absurd that jokes have become rather pointless.
Or extremely bitter.
Governments exist to protect their citizens. April Fools!

NaNoWriMo has gone the way of the Edsel.
Found out about it on a writing website. No skin off my nose, but I’m really not surprised.
There is no way I could listen to her voice for 38 minutes.
I stuck around just long enough to hear her complain about the organization “only” bringing in 1.4 MILLION DOLLARS annually.
Which seems more than adequate to keep a website, message board, hosting, and a couple of IT techs. With well over a million dollars surplus.
And yet they somehow went consistently in the red?
I didn’t listen longer, but I’m guessing she just breezed past what the money was spent on, and never identified any concrete steps taken to control costs.
I listened to the whole thing. It was mostly her blaming everyone and everything, including the stingy participants, for the organization’s demise.
I got most of the way through before I realized that I just didn’t care anymore about what happened to NaNoWriMo. I never actually signed up for it anyway. I just wrote a book in November.
AS with most grass-roots movements that become formalized, the parasitic “non-profits” that grift off of them end up killing the host.
People may still challenge themselves to write in a single month, but the name is forever tainted by the grift. See: Tea Party et al.
