I will spare you the lightning jokes.
The magic word at the box office this weekend was “Shazam!” Warner Bros.’ latest DC superhero adventure easily topped charts in North America, pocketing $53 million when it debuted in 4,217 venues.
Buoyed by positive reviews, “Shazam!” arrived ahead of expectations, which anticipated a start around $40 million to $45 million.
I’m glad Shazam! did well, here. It’s a great flick and I want them to make a sequel. They made it for about a hundred million and didn’t over-saturate on advertising, either, so with a good opening weekend and the excellent word-of-mouth/critical response it’s enjoying, we shouldn’t have any problem getting a sequel, either. And you know who’s really happy now? Dwayne Johnson. Black Adam is now gonna be a go, and after that it’s gonna be Shazam! vs. Black Adam, and that’s gonna be fun.
.. since I’ve not seen the film .. and since I’m not a comic-book nerd .. I’ll just ask.

Any idea *which* Black Adam origin story they’re going with, and .. any idea whether they’re gonna keep the name “Black Adam” ?

Dwayne Johnson keeps talking about BA as ‘antihero,’ and he visibly doesn’t give a sh*t if people don’t like the name ‘Black Adam,’ so that’s what I know.
They’re going with the origin where Adam is the first to be gifted the wizard’s powers, but releases the 7 Seven Deadly Sins (among other things, like destroying civilizations) and gets the powers taken away.
This. There’s dialog in the film that leans towards this version of the origin.
I’ll disagree with Moe here. I think Black Adam will be in #3 and the villain in the sequel would be the other member of Captain Marvel’s rogues’ gallery that showed up in the film.
Whatever it is, they’re gonna have to be QUICK about it. The kid actors aren’t going to be the right ages forever.
Writer from this movie apparently signed up for the sequel. I think they’re going to learn from the Harry Potter films in this respect.
