Tweet of the Day, Why, Then, This Is Hell, And IGN Is Not Out Of It edition.

I used to think that political writing didn’t pay, until I saw the rates for non-political writing. Sweet merciful Christ:

PS: I recognize that IGN probably doesn’t have the budget to pay more. That does not absolve them of trying to get desperate people to write for them for essentially free.

  1. They committed seppuku with gamergate. It’s mildly surprising that their corpse is still bleeding out.

  2. I think you are working from a false assumption when you are saying they are asking for ‘non-political’ writing. As with everything from ESPN to Disney, politics is being put in everything. There can be no refuge. Hell, they have even made the act of making your game non-political a basis to say it IS political.

If you are not with them, you are against them- and they do not share your own desire to NOT be political- whether it is From Software asking that fat bastard George ARRRRRR Martin to ‘consult’ on the story for Elden Ring or cheering the removal of all attractive women from games. OTHER people’s politics are not off the table when they discuss anything. They have their little red books and even if you say you do not want to play the game you have still chosen a side (at least in their mind.)
