Tweet of the Day, …Do Tell edition.

I’m not a horrible human being; I hope that the lesson will not come at the cost of a finger or two. But there was many lessons to be learned, starting with “the boardwalk is there for a reason:”

Via @iowahawk. Do read the article: Yellowstone doesn’t mess about. You can get seriously messed up there if you’re not careful. Or just, you know, dumb.

  1. The signs warning people not to be stupid at Yellowstone are omnipresent. This idiot had to ignore a number of them. Whatever the outcome, they earned their consequences. (Especially if it was one of the springs with the helpful signs warning about the high concentration of sulphuric acid.)

Nature is always trying to kill you. We’ve insulated ourselves from this fact enough that it shocks a lot of people when it actually happens.

I grew up not too far from Yellowstone. I’ve never gone there without witnessing somebody applying for a Darwin Award. (There’s a whole genre of “No bleep, I was there” stories about stupid things done in Yellowstone. Sadly, nothing I saw makes for a good story. Mainly because nothing dramatic happened.)

  2. Sadly, this is just a precursor.

The Supervolcano will not discriminate, taking the moron and the mighty alike.

  3. My mom taught me by both lesson and example that the world is a dangerous place and that you can never be too careful. So the mindset that leads one to think that doing something like this is a good idea is so alien to me that I would probably lose Sanity Points if I actually watched the video. @_@

That said, I’m going to claim that the chorus of this video is probably as good a summation of this situation as any. ^_~
