Hey, look at that! a 3 PM call! Maybe Obama can take this one, hmm?
I don’t know acat, this is his dirty litter box. Some of that cowboy diplomacy, he so derided in Cairo looks oddly effective at the moment.
And the ME descends into war. Quick, everybody pick sides! I wonder if Obama is on ours?
DStew: naah- he is on the 11th hole
lourae .. that’s a feature, not a bug.
.
tnfriend’ .. of course it’s his crap, but since when has that stopped a liberal from using an emergency to get what he (or she) wants?

I’ve been wondering when Turkey would finally do something about Syria. They want to be regional hegemons they need to start acting like it. Can’t put up with a civil war on it’s border and it certainly doesn’t want to be divorced from the post-Assad re-organization. Turkey has an ancient claim to Syria, I wouldn’t mind seeing them bring Syria on as a client state. It’s certainly better than having Syria an ally of Iran and a instigator in Lebanon & Israel.
I assume this must be a dispute over lady parts since that all that seems to matter.
That would be my guess, Earlgrey.
Belaboring the obvious…
Turkey is a part of NATO.
An attack upon one member of NATO is considered an attack upon all members of NATO. Other NATO members are obligated to lend aid.
We have a couple of carrier task forces in the area, as well as some remaining troops in an adjacent country.
Turkey is well within their rights to ask (nay, demand) our aid.
Agreeing would be unpopular domestically. Shirking would be devastating to our foreign relations.
At a guess, I’d say that Obama will try to bribe them. Which they’ll take as a sign of weakness to exploit. And a bad situation becomes much worse.
Luke: it’s possible that Turkey is using this meeting to get the Syrians to back down. Which… might work.
OT: anybody else having issues with the sharethis fields? It takes several seconds for the graphics to load properly, on every single screen.
Ditto Phil, all the little widgets have slowed this site down considerably.
Luke: that stopped being true on 9-11-01, when the (English) NATO spokesman announced that the purpose of NATO was for America to put the lives of its soldiers at the defense of Europe. Between Stupid NATO Tricks in Afghanistan and Iraq and the current political climate, I’m thinking they’ll be rentingout igloos in Dis before we send troops to help out Turkey’s (Islamist) government.
As far as the other NATO nations go, they don’t have the money, the military, or the national will to intervene.
