Really? REALLY?
Well, it’s all come full-circle. According to the Feminist Internet, the phrase “trigger warning” is now in itself also a trigger.
The older I get, the more I become convinced that this sort of absurdity is what happens when a society goes too long without a genuinely frightening war.

PS: No, I’d rather not have the war. Folks die in those; particularly young men, and I got sons. This is just people self-marginalizing themselves via meticulous recto-cranial inversion.
PPS: More and more, it feels like every new social-justice or identity-politics ’cause’ got its start as Internet sarcasm.
This is what happens when a civilization becomes so wealthy that large numbers of people do not have to work to exhaustion every day just to get ahead. They have the time and energy instead to think, and unfortunately many of them lie on the left-hand-side of the bell curve.
I’d say the “not-nearly-so-smart-as-they-think–they-are” side of the bell curve, but…yeah.
Yep. Wealth, a reluctance to commit, and a communications net that covers the world. But “those” people have been around for a long, long time. Note well the Bastille got stormed because of De Sade’s frothing…..
The trouble is, this .. mental chaparral .. piles up in the collective consciousness. If it’s not burned off by an external existential threat, every now and then, the accumulation of nonsense becomes a major *internal* threat.
.
So .. yeah, I’d like to avoid war too .. but I’d rather have a foreign one than the domestic.

War, Famine, Plague, 200 years ago a not insignificant number of children died in work place accidents. Society has been overdue for a general culling for a long time. That means when it does come it’s going to be much worse tan it was in earlier times.
