…And, oh, yeah: John Boehner’s resigning.

“…BOEHNER OUUUT.”

I actually never had as much of a problem with Speaker John Boehner as other people did; no, seriously. Honestly, he had a tough job. A job I would not want. Any caucus where I’m one of the reasonable people in it is gonna be a nightmare. I wish that he fought more, but I’m always gonna wish that.

Besides, he’s out the door, right? John Boehner will go take the hit on a continuing resolution, resign from Congress, and retire to Florida. No matter how much any of my readers may hate the first clause of the preceding sentence, the second and third clauses fulfill many conservative activists’ dreams. And life will, as it does, go on.

  1. If you think our dream for Boehner involves him sitting by a pool, sipping a drink with an umbrella in it, then you don’t know us very well.
    .
As I recall, we were promised a list of 12 popular conservative agendas the House would do after the last election. The dems could filibuster them or Obama could veto them, but the House would pass them.
Guess how many Boehner let come to a vote.
    Go on, guess.

      1. BTW, the answer is “one”.
Obama vetoed the Keystone XL. And rather making hay over it, the matter was quietly dropped, and all the other bullet points round filed.

      2. I don’t begrudge him his fruity drinks with little umbrellas in ’em .. but I do begrudge him being a force for “meh” for so long.

    1. the next one might not don the presidential knee pads on command. close enough for me. Boehner just neededed some help with his backbone problem. i am *sure* President Cruz will give the next Speaker some.

    2. It shows the price of failure.
      .
Sadly, the price of failure is most likely to be a current lobbyist sinecure.
      .
Our representatives exist for one solitary purpose.
      To represent us.
      Boehner did not.
He’s a waste of perfectly good oxygen.

  2. Heard somewhere that Boehner had planned to retire in 2014, but didn’t because Cantor lost.
    .
So .. here’s my question .. what did Boehner think needed doing that *only Cantor* could do in his place?
    .
Put another way, glad he’s gone, still don’t trust him or his inner circle.

    1. Ouch. The way things are going though, Hilary might have trouble getting a job with the Clinton Foundation.

  3. I do wish to point one thing out here ..
    .
    It’s true Boehner wouldn’t fight. It’s also true I won’t miss him.
    .
That doesn’t mean the likely replacements will be able to make the conversion from outside agitators to inside leaders .. and it’s not *just* about fighting.
    .
I’m withholding judgement, certainly until we find out who the replacement is… and until I see ’em in action.
    .
I think we’ll be able to tell pretty quickly – personnel is policy, so if most of Boehner’s lackeys keep their jobs and/or committee assignments, we’ve got another quisling .. but if the office lackeys stick and the seats get shuffled, there’s a chance.
