I figured out what was wrong with the story! It’s actually a set of stories, and I needed to go back, cut off a huge hunk of the beginning, and turn it into a story of its very own.

…instead of writing text for 2084, I was actually getting the plot down in actual words and stuff. Which I should have done from the start, but sometimes the trick is getting started. At least I now have a roadmap for the blessed thing.
I might also put it down for a few days, let the thoughts percolate. It’s not like I don’t have anything else to do, honestly.
