Constant Reader acat alerted us earlier that more than one ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL sequels are apparently being worked on. Via ScreenRant, the quote being passed around, right out of James Cameron’s mouth: ““And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore.”“

A faint hope offered for an ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL sequel.
A very faint hope. Essentially, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL director Robert Rodriguez is hoping that the Mouse might be more interested than Fox was in doing something with the IP. Disney owns it now, after all, and since (as GeekTyrant notes) Rodriquez is working on THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT he might have some juice there. I myself would not object to a miniseries – not that I have any say in the matter at all, mind you.
But still. ALITA was a lot of fun. I’d like to go back to that world, even if it was just on the small screen.

I am cautiously optimistic about Alita: Battle Angel . So far, critics are going ‘ehh’ and the viewers are going ‘wow!’ These days, that’s usually a good sign when you’re talking about a popcorn film. I’ll let you folks know how the movie went.
Also, I get to get out of the house! Yay me. It’s been a week.

This latest Alita: Battle Angel trailer suggests a bit of the plot.
The ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ trailer.
Haven’t read this particular anime, but: I like the look of Alita: Battle Angel. It has a hard-to-define arua about it that suggests that there may be actual thought behind the film. Or possibly I’m just being seduced by the appearance of actual sunlight in a cyberpunk movie? Dear God, can we handle this brazen confounding of tradition?
Don’t get me wrong. Blade Runner‘s aesthetic dominated for a reason. But we know that every director out there’s seen Tears in Rain. Sometimes, let there be natural lighting.
