Violent crime drops in Chicago :air quotes: ‘despite’ new, more permissive concealed-carry rules.

Yes, I know that I am a bad man for putting in that ‘despite.’ The reality is, it’s because of the new rules. Turns out that criminals will reexamine their work habits and daily productivity when there’s suddenly an increased chance that their potential victims might have a gun.

Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.

But, getting back to the title… hey, it could have been worse: I almost wrote more ‘liberal’ concealed-carry rules.  The problem, of course, that these days ‘liberal’ no longer really has the connotation of ‘freedom:’ more like ‘scolding,’ ‘bureaucratic,’ and ‘sour.’

Hey, some *good* news: Illinois Concealed Carry is ticking along.

Illinois’ first concealed carry gun licenses — about 5,000 of them — are being printed and mailed today, Illinois State Police officials said in a morning press conference.

Officials said they have received more than 50,000 applications. Those being mailed today were early approvals, mostly for those who submitted fingerprints along with their application.

Democrats’ concealed carry bill dies in Colorado.

Not before time, honestly.

Amid flagging support from his own party, the Democratic sponsor of a bill banning concealed weapons on college campuses spiked his own bill Friday night on the floor of the Colorado Senate.

Sen. Rollie Heath, D-Boulder, asked that HB 1226, a bill to ban concealed weapons on campus, be postponed until May 10, two days after the end of the session. The move effectively killed the bill.

Moral of the story: never tell a rape survivor who testifies that she got raped because she was banned from concealed carry that she doesn’t actually need concealed carry. Well, that’s the first moral of the story; the second moral is, don’t put Democrats in charge of state legislatures until they finally purge all those freaking Sixties liberals (and their descendants) from leadership positions.
