Ah, science writing. Self-sabotaging science writing.

Actual story: scientists in Zurich are working on a way to speed up optical recognition by robots to the point where one could follow you around. They did this by mimicking the way that a retina works, in order to allow the robot to react quickly to changes in lighting and so forth.  While they used the term ‘predator,’ obviously this is not an actual act of violence or even real intent.

The title that The Daily Mail used: “Rise of the ‘Terminators’: Super-intelligent predator robot is taught to hunt down prey in chilling experiment.”  I’m amazed that they avoided the use of multiple rampaging exclamation points.  Maybe somebody was ill that day…
