I think I’ve done this before, but Sylvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic (just what it says on the tin) is really rather good and it’s certainly appropriate for Halloween. It’s also supposed to be a limited series on Hulu, but God knows if that’s ever happening. Books get optioned all the time.

Book of the Week: Mexican Gothic.
I’ve been meaning to read Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic for a while now, and I can say that it’s living up to the title. It is definitely Mexican, and very nicely Gothic. I suppose that there’s probably some metaphor or something involving society lurking under the surface somewhere, but honestly it’s mostly about a plucky heroine dealing with a dilapidated house that’s filled with strange people. So, you know: gothic. #commissionearned
