My Twitter rant about paying for art (Storify).
I don’t even really remember what set this off. Probably somebody talking about Art for Art’s Sake. Which is fine, except that too many people use it as cover for Don’t Pay The Artist And Do Be A D*ck About It. So I ranted:

What did you do with the money, Nancy?
I read stories like this, and the title is my reaction. Where was the money that Nancy Pelosi was given already?
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told colleagues on Tuesday that Democrats have an “urgent need” to give money to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the final days before the midterm election.
On a caucus-wide, members-only conference call, Pelosi and DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, of New York, stressed that members needed to quickly pay their party dues so Democrats would have cash to run last-minute ads and maintain get-out-the-vote programs, a Democratic aide said.
I kept getting told that the Democrats were raking in the cash, hand over fist. So where’s the money, Nancy? What did it get spent on? Why is the DCCC so out of cash that it’s hitting up its members for back dues?
Some FOOLS threw a bag of money on the Senate floor*!
That’s like throwing a bucket of chum into piranha-infested waters!
Uh… so someone dropped a ton of money on the floor in the Senate Hart building pic.twitter.com/gS1XtR6h7M

Not seen: the immediate appearance a writhing sea of legislators and lobbyists, each determined to snatch away that sweet, sweet free money that doesn’t even come with a vote obligation.
Moe Lane
*Shh. It’s a better title this way.
More on the Peter Gleick Fakegate Memo.
This is pretty good stuff of Megan McArdle, re Peter Gleick’s own-goal sabotage of climate change advocates by disseminating/allegedly creating a fake Heartland memo on its global warming strategies (not to mention his confessed identity theft):
When skeptics complain that global warming activists are apparently willing to go to any lengths–including lying–to advance their worldview, I’d say one of the movement’s top priorities should be not proving them right.
…but it must be said: Gleick really doesn’t deserve much benefit of the doubt at this point with regard to his probable authorship of the original, blatantly fake, Heartland memo. There is a credible case to be made at this point that Gleick stole the original documents, then created the memo himself; and, given that he’s a self-confessed liar, it’s going to take more than I’m not lying about this for Gleick to get out of it. Kinda “Money,” kind of not.
I noticed that AoSHQ has gotten itself an Amazon Associates store, so I thought that I should blatantly steal the idea and have one, too: and here it is. Note that I have a Friends of the Site tab (idea likewise blatantly stolen from AoSHQ): if you’re a regular reader/commenter and you’ve got a book that you’re selling via Amazon.com, by all means suck up for a link (I obviously need to put more stuff up on there). If I can figure out a way to get the MoeLane Amazon store to embed on a page here without it looking awful, I will do so.
Anyway, here’s some Pink Floyd.
“Lawyers, Guns, & Money” (Acoustic!)
I like it, but it’s not available commercially, alas.
