A short-short-short from my Patreon account (https://www.patreon.com/MoeLane?ty=h).

For those tuning in late: I have a Patreon account set up to encourage me to do more non-political work. If you think that this is a marvelous notion, then: by all means, give me money every month. I have included a sample below of some of the minor things that I’m doing; the major thing that I’m doing is writing out a generic setting for a roleplaying game, but you probably won’t see the finished version of that for another couple of months.  Anyway, here’s a story:

Enjoy! And, you know, sign up for my Patreon account if you so desire. At $60/month I start writing actual short stories.

Why people shouldn’t use @Patreon to steal stuff from creators.

Came across this this evening and it’s an interesting problem – well, actually, it’s an infuriating problem for the cartoonist, and I can see why.  Basically, the guy has a pledge level on his Patreon account where you can get access to his NSFW comics; people have been popping in, temporarily getting that level of Patreon access, seeing the comics, then canceling their accounts.  As Patreon collects at the beginning of the month, that means that some of these people have figured out how to rip this guy off. And now we’re at the $40 milestone on Patreon!

At the $60/month level everybody starts to get regular (monthly) 500-word roleplaying game world material: Patrons will see it first, and everybody else a little later. Some of the 100 word short-short-short fiction stuff will appear here, too, but not reliably. Gotta entice new potential Patrons, after all.

Thanks to everybody who’s contributing, by the way. It’s… encouraging.

I have a new goal up on my Patreon account!

For those interested: at the $30/month level I’ll be writing a new hundred-word fiction story every week and sending it out to my patrons.  These will probably not end up here (although the occasional one might); I want to give my supporters a little something nice for themselves.  Well, theoretically something nice. I actually have to go out and write them, after all.

…Well, that last bit was creatively draining.

And, alas, not particularly easy to monetize.  Speaking of which: I really, really need to figure out how to get more interest in the Patreon thing.  I hesitate to do the obvious, which is to whine about it on Twitter until people take pity on me, but that may be what it takes.  Anybody out there successfully doing it that has tips to share?
