RIP, Peter Mayhew.

This is very sad: “Peter Mayhew, who became known to fans worldwide as the lovable Wookiee Chewbacca in the Star Wars galaxy of films, has died. He was 74.” I knew that he was having health problems, but I was hoping that he was getting better. My prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.

Peter Mayhew passes the bowcaster to Joonas Suotamo for Han Solo film.

This is… well, it’s not horrible news. Peter Mayhew is in his 70s, he’s playing Chewbacca in The Last Jedi, and probably will in the next one, too. And certainly Joonas Suotamo has been understudying for the role. But it’s still kind of sad to see how time marches on. Suotamo strikes the right note, here:

The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga,Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, andKenny Baker in the new film.
