DC Comics gets into the sitcom business with Powerless.

DC is doing a sitcom!  It’s called Powerless, and it honestly sounds kind of like a stand-up comedy sketch:

The single-camera workplace comedy is set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. The project is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of superheroes and villains.

…and I’ll be honest: theoretically that doesn’t sound so bad to me. It’s an interesting concept, because living in a superhero universe would be a highly surreal experience.  And ‘surreal’ is a short jump to ‘comedy.’  Of course, it’s the implementation that matters. For that matter: are we at saturation point yet when it comes to superheroes and TV?  I don’t actually have cable, remember, so I wouldn’t really know.  What’s next, though? Superhero soap operas?

…Well, maybe. After all, superhero webcomics are a thing, so the concept might transfer over.

  1. There is a superhero soap opera…it’s called “Supergirl”. As Mrs Prayerborne says, “There IS no ‘A’ story”.

    1. Damage Control? The book about the folks who clean up after super hero battles? It’s aside plot in the current Hellcat book with Patsy “It’s Patsy!” Walker running a service for folks who have super powers but don’t want to do the whole hero thing. And the Hydra series that ran during Secret Wars kinda did it as well….

      1. Yes, Damage Control has actually been around since 1988 and was also thought of as a sitcom when they had their own books.

Like I said, DC is ripping off Marvel wholesale here. I am disgusted with DC so boldly stealing from Marvel.

          1. True. Deadpool is a pretty blatant and transparent rip-off of Deathstroke – originally – and that was Marvel ripping DC.

Although, aside from the Nolan Batmans (1&2, only), name me a good-to-great DC movie as of late. I dare you. LOLOL Maybe they NEED to go into sitcoms…

  2. OMGOMGOMG, this could totally be the return of the greatest sitcom of all time “Better off Ted.” No seriously, if you haven’t watched it, do so – both seasons are on netflix. (if the original show took place in the DCU, that would make a lot of sense)

Yes it was a single camera sitcom too.

Now the real question is… is “izombie” a comic book sitcom or soap opera? (answer: who cares it’s damn good)
