Freedom Watch files racketeering suit against Hillary Clinton.

Hee!

The conservative group Freedom Watch has filed a racketeering lawsuit against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that accuses her of failing to produce documents under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The civil suit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, argues that Clinton used her private emails to sell access to other officials in return for donations to the Clinton Foundation.

Hillary Clinton’s Billy Carter moment.

Oh, this is fascinating reading: come for the problematical Haitian gold mine, stay for the exquisitely careful attempts of the Washington Post to needle Hillary Clinton about her brother Tony Rodham without looking like they’re needling her. Basically, what appears to have happened here is that Rodham – a man who has admittedly spent a good of time and effort in a quest to monetize the fact that his sister married a former President* – was given a nice little board membership (and, more importantly, stock options) on said mine by VCS Mining.  The CEO of that company (Angelo Viard) swears up and down that this wasn’t because Billy Carter Tony Rodham is the brother of Jimmy Carter Hillary Clinton: as you might imagine, I fully endorse Andrew Stiles‘ snort of disbelief.

Why?  Well, according to the WaPo (which is also snorting in disbelief, albeit more quietly) the mine is: controversial because of the potential environmental damage**; a bit of a political football in Haiti; and in need of some potent patronage. You must simply forgive people for looking at that, then looking at Tony Rodham, then looking resigned at what it all means.  Especially if you note – again, like the Washington Post did – that the Clintons enjoy a good deal of political influence in Haiti, thanks to the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative. Early primary state Democrats wondering – WONDERING – why Hillary Clinton isn’t visiting.

Surely this is a joke.

In Iowa, Democrats want to see Hillary Rodham Clinton mingling in their neighborhood coffee shops, answering their questions and sharing laughs. In New Hampshire, they expect her on their living-room couches, listening to their tales of struggle. In South Carolina, they’re eager to hold hands with her and pray together.

And in each of the early presidential primary and caucus states, Democratic activists are asking the same question: Where is Hillary?

Quote of the Day, You Can Tell A Lot About A Person From Her Holdout Weapon edition.

Jonah Goldberg, on the blast from the past that we’re seeing now:

The fact that Team Clinton is relying on the old rat squad once again is vastly more significant than most commentators have suggested. Yes, yes, it’s bad politics. A candidate looking to offer a fresh face forward, figuratively speaking, has no choice but to keep his or her own face (John Kerry notwithstanding). But she surely has plenty of options for who she picks to represent her in public. Mrs. Clinton has millions and millions of dollars at her disposal. She has people placed at the highest reaches of the government and the media. There are over 200 people working, formally or informally, for her as policy advisors already. And yet she chooses to get the old band back together instead.

Why? There are many possible answers, but the only plausible one is that a Clinton only trusts Clinton loyalists. This fits everything we know about the Clintons. And it speaks volumes about the thickness of her bubble.

Via Ed Driscoll. I’ve also noticed this; and while I suppose that some of these people got nowhere else to go I have to wonder whether Hillary Clinton is running some sort of bizarre halfway house for political hacks, instead of an actual Presidential campaign.  Heck, I wonder if she even knows, at this point.

Well, *this* detail about State Department email practices is awkward.

For everybody that I don’t particularly like.

Does Hillary Clinton want to run? – Because I think that the fun for this campaign was… this campaign can’t be any kind of fun for her, at this point. Joyless, and a cold payoff.

Martin O’Malley demonstrates why Hillary Clinton is still considered the front-runner.

It’s such a little thing, but important.  Martin O’Malley started off decently enough, here: “Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley says if he were president, it would be important as commander in chief to have his secretary of state use the official server for business.” Not bad; and neither was the talking point of how the economy would be more important, anyway.  Mind you, Martin O’Malley doesn’t actually know how to grow an economy, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

But then O’Malley whiffs it. From the same Politico article: “O’Malley said he didn’t “feel compelled to answer” a follow-up question about Clinton’s actions from Bloomberg Politics’ John Heilemann. “Secretary Clinton is perfectly capable of defending her own service in office,” he said.” In other words: Martin O’Malley is running for Vice President.  Either that, or he has the political instincts of a clubbed baby harp seal. Bobby Jindal is not afraid of hurting Hillary Clinton’s feelings.

(H/T: Twitchy) This is entertaining:

…I always did like Bobby Jindal. He looks ready to get in the scrum, too. That’s going to be a selling point, this election cycle.

The Hillary Press Conference that launched a thousand dumpster fire gifs.

This was the second most enjoyable press conference I’ve ever watched*: half of my timeline was howling and looking for burning tire pictures by the end of it.

If you have the twenty minutes or so to spare, indulge yourself.  Especially the abrupt ending – she abruptly ran like blazes when somebody brought up fired-for-using-private-email** Ambassador Scott Gration.  Remember: this is the Last, Great Hope of the Democratic party, and they’re doing shots of Maalox now because of it.
