The ‘support MoeLane.com’s webhost’ post.

Well, it’s that time again:

Please note that this link is not actually to my account: it’s all going to Neil Stevens, who is hosting MoeLane.com in the hope that someday it might become a valuable [bleeping] thing. I’m not going to complain if you hit my tip jar over there on the sidebar, but if you like this site (and what it, among others, is trying to do) I’d ask that you contribute above.

Moe Lane

PS: If that doesn’t persuade you, let me remind you: I have lobster minions.

Items now purchased from the Blogging Tools Wish List.

Thanks to the generosity of readers, I’ve been able to finally pick up a better camcorder and accessories for same.  My thanks to everybody that helped.

Feel free to add to their number, of course.  The next step: getting the cash together for something better than Windows Movie Maker (unfortunately, the new one that MS put out is if anything a little less intuitive for me to work with).

This was originally a much nastier post (With crass entreaties included).

On a completely different subject; but then I realized that it was being colored by the fact that, generally speaking, a lot of people were out there this week maliciously lying about my current political party (and our political leanings in general).  Aside from everything else, it’s objectionable when that happens.  Which is what cheered me right up; because I imagine that there are millions of folks out there right now who are just as offended as I am, and at the same folks.

So now I’m as right as a trivet, and happy to face the weekend.

Moe Lane

PS: Hit the tip jar!  There’s a bunch of people out there who think that you’re a racist scumbag, and none of them want me to have better video editing software.

PPS: Yeah, I kept the crass entreaties.

The spirit is willing, but the tech is weak.

Donations thus far have put me a good part of the way towards a video camera that will actually not give results like this:

…yeah, it was the RS Gathering that really nailed down for me the problems that I’m having with the current kit; from the laptop (recently acquired, tanjit) that doesn’t like wifi to the video camera that doesn’t like Vista (or most memory chips). Hence, the new Wish List (first noted here).

Moe Lane

PS: I’ve had it pointed out to me that I treat discussions like this as a favor to be asked, and not as a pitch for why you should make sure that I have the tools that I need for political blogging: so take a look at the above video to see why you should.  I’m in there swinging, but (to quote the classics) I’m using stone knives and bear skins.

My Wish List gets serious.

As you can see on the sidebar, and go down a bit (or go here): the books and movies and whatnot have been replaced with stuff that I could actually, well, use in my blogging life. It’s also stuff that I’ll be picking up as donations make it possible, so there’s that.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled wild schmeer of politics and geekery.

ActiCons is having a pledge drive.

Its owner, our own Caleb Howe (who some of you can thank for having such a good time at the RS Gathering, among quite a few other things) raises a good point; we’re on our own when it comes to funding conservative investigative blogging. Heck of a thing, but there it is – and while it may make us lean and mean, it mostly makes us lean.

So give him a hand. Particularly if you’re an conservative billionaire looking to give the current party running Congress the shakes, shivers, and galloping staggers.

PS: Me? Go buy something on Amazon. It’s my only revenue stream these days.

Crossposted to RedState.

[UPDATE] : Caleb has emailed me to argue that I should be doing the same for my site, as well.  Do I need it?  Well…  probably, yes. The ‘new’ laptop’s refurbished and apparently doesn’t like most flavors of wi-fi; the videocam’s too old to be compatible with Vista; my digital recorders can’t directly plug into computers; I edit my videos using Windows Movie Maker; and I am taking my life into my hands every time I use the family camera on one of these jaunts.

I don’t complain about this stuff to my readers, mostly because it feels like whining – but there it is.  I use a kit that’s been slapped together through scrounging, spare Amazon.com gift certificates and some timely donations, and I think that everybody else on the Right trying to do activism has the same bloody problem.

[Further UPDATE]: And let’s not even discuss the loss that Neil is taking in hosting this site.

Well, either a productive or unproductive day…

…depending on how you look at it; I mean, I thought that it was productive, but then one of my metrics for success is how badly-spelled the hate mail is. Although, truth be told many days I don’t even get hate mail. Alas. Alack.

Moving along: light posting – seriously; the weekend is being spent at a lakefront camp that may have electricity but won’t have Wi-Fi, so don’t expect much. Maybe a couple of posts preloaded. In the meantime, hit the tip jar.

Why?

Because if you don’t, the sun will implode.

Nah, really it’s so that I can get a hotel room for the RS Gathering. My readers’ generous contributions have already paid for the plane ticket, bless them.

My own, personal 2Q fundraising deadline.

Sounds pretentious, yup – but what the heck. Today’s the last day of the second quarter, and the RS Gathering (July 31 – August 1) is rapidly beginning to loom. I’m about 1/3rd of the way there to being able to pay for the hotel and airline fare, so feel free to hit the tip jar:

What? Alas, no, very few of us in the VRWC get paid for doing this stuff. My job is being a stay-at-home dad; rewarding work, but not particularly subsidized. so… no travel budget, no expense account, everything’s pretty much out-of-pocket. [Shrug] Such is life.
