#rsrh QotD, Written With Malice Aforethought edition.

Looking at the Left, on the (frankly whitebread, not to mention astroturf) Denver, CO union reaction to African-American  race class* traitor Leland Robinson:

Seeing a lone black man being shouted at by union goons, [the police] decided it was better that he joined the tea party protest at the bottom of the stairs, where he would be safe.

I really do wish that the activist Left could learn to be a little more tolerant and inclusive when it comes to beliefs that don’t fit their particular, rather provincial, worldview.

Via… somebody, sorry.

*Yeah, not much better that way either, huh?

Movie of the Week: Coneheads.

Honestly, Coneheads should have sucked: it was a SNL-inspired movie that had Sinbad and Tom Arnold in it.  And yet, it was an endearingly goofy film that managed to poke gentle fun at various American attitudes towards immigration without actually mocking them overmuch.  Heck, even the titular villain of the piece got to stand his ground.  I liked it.

And so, goodbye to Red.

#rsrh Andrew Malcolm had far too much fun…

writing this post on the ‘showdown’ between Arizona and Utah over who gets to have the first official state gun.  Puns were not so much present in said post as they were cheerfully crammed into every nook and cranny, followed by Andrew jumping up and down on top of the post to close it until he heard the click of the lock engaging.

Well, that’s why I like Andrew.  He’s got the right instincts for this entire blogging thing.

Abortion clinic reform passes Virginia Senate.

The bill requires that facilities that perform more than five first trimester abortions per month be subject to the same regulations as hospitals, which will hopefully help keep down the kind of abuses that were documented here by Live Action (and, much more horrifyingly, the atrocities committed in Pennsylvania by Kermit Gosnell).  This rather commonsense consistency in regulating abortions would be normally out of reach of the pro-life movement, as the Virginia Senate is 22/18 Democratic/Republican: however, two Democrats switched their votes after a parliamentary procedure forced them to take a stand on the bill.  This made the vote 20/20, thus allowing Lt. Governor Bill Bolling to break the tie.

Because elections matter.

People may also remember that this has been building up since August of 2010, when Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli ruled that abortion facilities could be regulated as if they were hospitals – which ruling helped set up this bill.

Because elections matter.

The bill now goes to Governor Bob McDonnell, who will sign it.

Because elections matter.

#rsrh Too foul-mouthed for RedState… (NSFW!)

…you can safely ignore the first seven minutes or so: it’s just the standard union solidarity BS. It’s at about 7:37 that the union-supported homophobia, crude sexual invitations, and patented tough-guy sneak-attack slaps start:

Gotta love the tolerant Northeast (Providence, RI, I believe).

Via Hot Air & Michelle Malkin.

Best part: that’s an AFSCME rally. Mr. Gay-hater is probably a government employee.

Smash the ROTC ‘Roadblock.’

This Inside Higher Ed article (H/T: Instapundit) on Columbia’s (and the rest of the Ivy League’s) contempt for the military does its readers a grave disservice: it adamantly refuses to even acknowledge that colleges that ban ROTC from campus are ineligible for federal funding.  This is an annoying, yet ultimately unsurprising omission, given that the only way that anybody can even have a ‘debate’ on this subject is by ignoring the clear will of the American electorate, which is currently involuntarily subsidizing the ‘right’ of academics to remain anti-military bigots.  But there is no debate.  There is no negotiation.  There is merely the law, and whether it is being complied with.

Seriously, let us quote the Solomon Amendment, yet one more time:

(a) Denial of Funds for Preventing ROTC Access to Campus. – No funds described in subsection (d)(1) may be provided by contract or by grant to an institution of higher education (including any subelement of such institution) if the Secretary of Defense determines that that institution (or any subelement of that institution) has a policy or practice (regardless of when implemented) that either prohibits, or in effect prevents –

(1) the Secretary of a military department from maintaining, establishing, or operating a unit of the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (in accordance with section 654 of this title and other applicable Federal laws) at that institution (or any subelement of that institution); or

(2) a student at that institution (or any subelement of that institution) from enrolling in a unit of the Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps at another institution of higher education.

#rsrh QotD, Disconnected Union Goons edition.

From Jim Geraghty, who is as pissed off about Tabitha Hale getting hit by a union goon as I am, but is somewhat better able to maintain an even strain:

I’ve never been personally protested, but I look forward to that day. I’d love to look into the eyes and ask… why are you here? What are you doing with your lives? How little do you have in your lives to do that you can take time out of your day to stand there and wave a sign and shout in the hopes that someone, anyone around you will see or hear you and be persuaded? Have you no hobbies? No book you would rather be reading?

Are you that desperate to feel a sense of connection and shared purpose, and have failed so utterly at generating that sense of satisfaction and self-worth in every other aspect of your life, that you think that this is only way you can experience a frisson of purpose and mission and satisfaction with effort expended for a worthy cause? That worthy cause is filling the void of people yelling at me at this time and place?
You’re here because deep down, you fear no one loves you, don’t you?

Nobody does love them, of course. If people loved them, then they wouldn’t have to find meaning in the act of going to a protest and hitting a woman.

PS: Extra, bonus quote from Tabitha herself: “[Pro-union agitators have] been comparing themselves to the Egyptians ousting Mubarak. Looks like they’re not too far off, given that they share the tendency to assault women with cameras.”
