#rsrh President lying about SSM support?

John Aravois of AmericaBlog Gay is incensed, incensed! that the President’s people – prepare to be shocked at this revelationlied about President Obama’s past support for same-sex marriage.  Apparently, Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia Obama had never… well, the title says it all:

“Senior White House aide: 1996 Obama gay marriage questionnaire is a fake, even though Obama signed it”

Via Glenn Reynolds, who probably is as contemptuous of this as I am.  And I support same-sex marriage; the only difference between me and the President is, I’m not afraid to say so.  But it’s amazing how outraged Aravois can still get over what is pretty much a routine betrayal of him by the President (perfectly safe one, too*).  I mean, come on.  For the love of God, how many times do we have to have this conversation?  THIS IS WHY THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT SUPPORT SAME-SEX MARRIAGE:

Barack Obama can afford to annoy gay voters.  He cannot afford to annoy African-American ones.  And if you think that this isn’t an issue, go ask the Democratic party in Maryland why a SSM bill died in the Democratic-controlled state legislature.  Again.

Just don’t be surprised if they decline to meet with you in public.

Moe Lane

*After all, what are you going to do, Aravois?  Vote Republican?

  1. One of the reasons I started blogging is to win the gay demographic over to fiscal conservativism. My perception is that social conservatives have done a great deal to populate the Left because, for religious reasons, they drove gays, women and Jews out of the Right even those these groups are best served by fiscal conservativism. So the Left harbors these groups and exploits them but does not keep promises to them. The Left only keeps promises to groups that can be used to destroy the free market system and impose socialism, although it certainly will not keep its ultimate promise of supremacy and empowerment. It strikes me as rather desperate to defy the gay Left so early in the campaign season in order for Obama to establish his gay-hating props with blacks. Obama’s margin of victory in 2008 was almost entirely comprised of the gay Left vote. With 31 percent of gay voters in 2010 voting for Republicans, clearly gays are no longer hostages of the Left. I expect that Obama will throw gays some crumbs to try to keep them loyal. But if gay conservatives can make clear to gays what fiscal conservativism is really about, then they aren’t going to settle for crumbs from the Democrats.
