Senate Democrats are only *theoretically* interested in fixing the VA scandal.

Dagnabbit, Jim Geraghty got to this story before I did*:

Senate Democrats are closing ranks behind Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and President Obama’s decision to keep him in the cabinet despite Republican calls for his ouster.

As of Thursday afternoon, not a single Democratic senator had called for Shinseki’s resignation.

And Senate Democrats have been slow to embrace House-passed legislation that would give Shinseki the authority to fire senior executives.

Of course they did; of course they haven’t; and of course they are.  Senate Democrats are in a tricky position: to wit, they need to figure out how to repair the President’s grotesque incompetence without once referencing the President’s grotesque incompetence.  This has been made harder by the minor problem that the President actually campaigned on fixing the previous President’s grotesque incompetence, which in retrospect does not actually look as grotesque as it did in, say, 2008. So, when in doubt… delay, deflect, and defer.  Welcome to Dizzy City: here’s your accordion.

  1. If Eric Shinseki goes then the White House has to decide whether to leave the position open until after the elections or have senate hearings on the new nominee which will rehash the entire fiasco. Basically, Obama will have to chose between a shitte sandwich on rye or wholewheat.

    1. Jerry Sandusky’s back?
Gee…I’m not sure about the wisdom of hiring a convicted pedophile to head the VA, but as McCain says, “It’s the president’s choice.”
