Stop the damn presses:
It’s been 20 years since the last Pink Floyd album came out, and now frontman Dave Gilmour is ready to knock the dust off and get the band rolling again. Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, announced via Twitter that Pink Floyd would be releasing a new album, ‘The Endless River,’ in October of this year.
I know nothing else of this (provided to us by Constant Reader Finrod). There is the possibility of disappointment; even crushing disappointment. But the news still ranks a Dude.
…Dude.
Geriatric rock! Can you feel the excitement? Basically the Lawrence Welk Show for Boomers.
Hush, you. Unlike Moe’s favorite aging Rocker, Springsteen, these guys can actually sing somewhat in tune…
Floyd without Waters?
No. Just no.
Hush. The Wall was Waters last gasp of greatness mixed with a lot of crap. There’s a reason they only play 2 or 3 songs off the double album. Final Cut was just awful. Gilmore’s Floyd albums, while not equal of Dark Side or Wish You Were Here, are some of my favorites.

Waters has done nothing of note since stomping off in a huff.
> get the band rolling again
.
Well, no, not as long as Richard Wright continues to be dead. (Would also be nice if Waters stopped being a self important left wing nut job, but that’s not a deal breaker for me.)
.
My understanding is that this will be based off of some left overs that Wright recorded during the Division Bell sessions. I’ll almost certainly at least give it a listen, and if it rises to the same quality as Gilmor’s last solo album (On an Island), that’ll be good enough for me.
Agreed. If we’re lucky they’ll tour one more time, and I don’t think we could legitimately hope for anything more than that.
I really liked The Division Bell. Granted when I rank the Pink Floyd albums it comes in 5th, but that’s because it’s behind Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Animals (I seem to like this album more than most), and Wish You Were Here.
Amusing trivia: this will mean that the next-to-last word on the next-to-last line of the next-to-last song on the soon-to-be-next-to-last album is an obscenity.
you know you just can’t win.
Saw them on their last tour, May 12, 1994 at Death Valley Stadium in Clemson. I was the designated driver for a bunch of friends. I did bring a six pack of O’Douls so I wouldn’t feel left out in the party atmosphere going on.
It was a great show. I don’t know how many were there, but DV holds over 80,000 people for football games.
Don’t know how good this next album will be though.
