When I first really got into Tom Lehrer, this was… well, That Was The Year That Was. In other words, by then it was just another relic of the Cold War. Which we had happened to win, and so everything was great. Which it was!
But there is never an End To History.

I had not one but two college professors actually play Tom Lehrer in class: the chemistry prof played _The Elements_, and when we were reading from the biography of Alma Mahler Gropius Werfel, the English prof pulled out _Alma_.
A third prof actually had the original _Songs By Tom Lehrer_ vinyl album that he let me borrow and copy.
I went to a cool college.
Oh, and I didn’t really know him and never had a class under him, but I remember one of the professors in the Music department stating that his unreachable goal as an amateur pianist was to be able to play The Vatican Rag.
