ICYMI: Major arrests made in India of IRS phone scammers.

I was wondering what happened to those guys.  You’d think that they would have stopped calling me after the third or fourth time I blasted AC/DC in their ears, but apparently not. Nope, it took a major mass arrest, instead:

Dozens of arrests have been made in the phone scams plaguing American taxpayers. Acting on a tip, 70 call center workers were arrested for their alleged roles in tax-related scams following a police raid on call centers outside of Mumbai, India. More than 750 call center workers were detained in what a police spokesperson characterized as an ongoing investigation.

This was back at the beginning of the month, by the way. Alas, IRS scammers are still very much a thing, but every little bit helps, right?

  1. Huh. The ones hitting my phone number claim to be “Windows technical support”.
    .
It’s kind of nice to exercise my vocabulary, but you’d think they’d take my number off their list at some point.

  2. It’d be nice if we could somehow extradite these people to the U.S. and charge them with impersonating a federal officer.

    1. I suspect that the limiting factor there would be how much extradition would cost, per person. I dunno if it’d be worth it for the cold-callers, although the people running the scam are of course a different story altogether.

  3. Frankly I’m sick and tire of the calls informing me about refinancing my mortgage and winning a cruise vacation. Don’t have a mortgage, and I don’t like boat.
