The Aberdeen Bestiary is now online.

For those wondering, the Aberdeen Bestiary is a medieval manuscript – amazingly, it’s a bestiary – that probably got swept up by the Tudor dynasty as part of Henry VIII’s cut of the proceeds from the enforced fire sale of all those monasteries.  Not that I’m being judgmental… OK, yes, I’m being judgmental. My prerogative.

Anyway, the University of Aberdeen has scanned the [expletive deleted] out of the manuscript and now you can drill down on the images like a boss. Link’s here; and the pictures are pretty high-definition.  The article says the pictures are picking up stuff that’s not visible to the naked eye, and that’s pretty sweet.  Translations, too!

  1. Wow! I had to close the page after about ten minutes, because the minions and I were looking it over and checking out the text when we were supposed to be getting them ready for bed. I’ll have to check it out again with them a little earlier in the day. Thank you for sharing that!
