I clearly need to get into more things.

This happens, from time to time: I focus on stuff, and let everything else go, and suddenly I have less to talk about. So, what should I be getting into? What should my readers be getting into? That’s always a good topic of conversation.

  1. I mean, there’s always politics …

More seriously, there’s a bunchaton of YouTube “celebs” whose existence involves seeing what’s hot .. I suggest watching by proxy as you’re likely to find politics less mentally disturbing ..

  2. There’s always trouble, right? Getting into trouble can be fun. Although maybe not as much in the East Coast megapolis as it is in lower population density locations.

I’m probably not good for helpful suggestions. My hobbies aren’t too exciting – video games, occasionally TTRPGs, some hobbyist programming when work programming doesn’t exhaust me, a long-neglected motorcycle.

    1. All the best stories involve Trouble™. There is a dearth of authors who know what the hell they’re talking about.

  3. Deep Rock Galactic. (And other video games, of course.)

    Music, instruments, and recording.

The CNC cutting & machining tools now available to hobbyists are just flipping nuts. (Fair warning: those aimed at suburban women have design and control programs that are upside down and backwards from normal CAD/CAM. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks learning Cricut’s Design Space, and I have some very rude things to say about it.)

    There’s always AI Art.

it’s a bit late to talk about gardening.

    Books are always good.

  4. Badminton
    Guns
    BattleTech
    Carpentry
    Mixed Martial Arts (watching)
    Robot fighting
Doing some Brandon Sanderson-like “How to be a great writer” video tutorials

    1. I rather trust Moe’s opinions on that matter than the esteemed Professor Sanderson. Sanderson had the office next to a friend; she reported that he was frequently heard giving rave reviews to twitterpated freshmen coeds.

That said, he has published many books and she had published none at the time, so there was doubtless some level of sour grapes flavoring her opinion. Nevertheless (which my autocorrect guesses before I finish), I have read Moe’s work and have nor read Sanderson’s so I trust Moe’s opinions on writing.

  5. on videogames… Shadows of Forbidden Gods is interesting. I’m not actually sure how much you’d like it – you seem to more go in for Civ and the AAA stuff – but it sure is interesting.

Quick blurb: you play the part of an Elder god in a fantasy world. The stars are right! Try to end the world before they become wrong again. Partially interesting because a lot of the AI is exposed, and you get tools to muck with it.

    1. I do need to build a game rig .. or buy a used XBOX that’ll run Fallout 3-4.

First, though, I’m looking at ebikes.
