I dunno if ‘Scorpio Five’ is best suited for a novel, or a TTRPG setting. The reason I wonder about the latter is that if you run a game in it the players are immediately gonna want to leave, simply because they’ve been told it’s impossible and that’s just catnip to gamers. Search your heart; you know this to be true.

It’s all in how you hang the lampshade.
A). “yes, people could leave with macguffin X , see that they don’t get it”
B) “energy required to open a hyperspace gate wormhole bafflegab exceeds the entire planet’s output for a decade” (no industry, some agriculture)
C) “yes, people leave, the incredibly rich don’t all expect to die on (continent) so go do (mission) and retrieve macguffin and we’ll tell you how you’re exfiltrating”. (with obvious “you need to impersonate (former macguffin owner)” or “we lied, there’s a way out but you can’t have it” second games…
Mew
p.s. I’d prefer it as a book, mind .. so the above become sequel fodder
