#rsrh QotD, Not That Obama Would Have Held The Trial In DC Edition.

Vanity Fair:

In an adaptation from his new book, The Finish—first reported for Vanity Fair—magazine contributing editor Mark Bowden reveals that President Obama intended to put Osama bin Laden on trial in the federal court system if he had been captured, rather than killed, during the Abbottabad raid.

But I guarantee that the trial wouldn’t have been in DC. Or Chicago. Or any other city that Obama wouldn’t have wanted to be a magnet for car bombs for the next three decades.

Anyway, I guess that this puts the final nail in that football that Obama keeps trying to spike over bin Laden.  Thank God that Navy SEALS have a better grasp on elementary counter-terrorism reality than Barack Obama does…

PS: What would I have done, if I had gotten bin Laden alive?  Almost certainly what the SEALS did: which is to say, either three to the chest, or two to the head (depending on which rumor you believe).  The alternatives are… kind of disturbing, really.  But I wouldn’t have brought him back to the USA.

  1. At most, I’d have removed him to somewhere very, very secret and very, very secure, used every method at our disposal to extract every piece of intelligence we could manage from him, and then given him the old “short drop and a sudden stop”.

  2. In related news, Moe …

    .
The Feds are spending $165 million to buy the Thomson correctional center, in Illinois, near Davenport, IA.
    .
This is the facility that the Obama administration had proposed, at one point, to use to house the Gitmo prisoners. (not to mention a nice kick to the Illinois bottom line …)
    .
The official word is that Thomson is needed due to federal prison overcrowding, due to the continued malpractice surrounding the war on some drugs… but I would look for myself if any of ’em said the sky’s blue.

  3. I freely admit that I’d have tortured the everliving [bleep] out of him.
(And I mean *real* torture, not stress positions, sleep deprivation, waterboarding, or being forced to listen to Lady Ga-Ga.)
After all the leads were played out, he’d be looking at a bullet and a pigskin shroud in an unmarked grave (if I was feeling merciful) or a sex-change operation, a Jewish name, and a permanent stay in a mental institution (if I was not).
Either way, it would never have been admitted, much less touted.

  4. What would I have done, if I had gotten bin Laden alive?

I would have announced that after a firefight, the SEALs had shot and killed bin Laden, grabbed his body, and made a hasty exit … unfortunately leaving computers and documents behind to be destroyed when they set fire to his compound. And I would have announced that bin Laden’s body was dumped at sea.

Then I would have secretly interrogated bin Laden at my leisure … very thoroughly and very, very harshly. And whatever he said would have been compared with the contents of all the the computers and documents the SEALs had seized.
