Tomorrow morning will be spent at the doctor’s, so that I can get this amateur diagnosis of walking pneumonia confirmed. Oh, yeah, it’s been one of those Memorial Day weekends.

What you need is some fish, and plankton, and sea greens, and protein from the sea.
Get well, Moe.

Pneumonia is no joke.

Moe’s going to be alright. He’s Irish, so it will take a lot more to kill him. And yes you can indeed joke about pneumonia. Here’s an old classic one:
.
“Doc,” a guy goes to see his doctor, “I can’t seem to shake this cold. Can you do something for me?”
.
“Yes.” Answered the doctor. “First, go home a take a long hot bath. Make sure you breathe in the stream. Then, when you’re done, throw open the nearest window and breathe in the cool air.”
.
“But Doc, I will catch Pneumonia if I do that!”
.
“Yes,” answered the doctor, “but I can do something for you then.”
This isn’t a laughing matter, pneumonia can actually be lethal.
Sure it can be lethal, if it goes untreated.

My grandfather had pneumonia earlier this year and, while troubled, I knew that modern medicine has come a long way. My 80+ year-old grandfather pulled through, so will Moe.
It rather depends on whether modern medicine can kill whatever’s causing the infection (resistant staph or “superbugs” ring any bells?) and – if not – whether supportive care can keep the patient alive long enough to kick it.
.
Then there’s the little fact that the scar tissue can remain long after the infection is kicked. Doesn’t affect an 80-year-old as much as an active mid-lifer.

While we think happy thoughts for Moe’s health, here’s a little something for Memorial Day.
