Brain Bombs
And the Invisible College of High Magic thought that research necromancy would never go anywhere as its own field of academic inquiry.
The basic concept is straightforward, if disgusting: human brains have symbolic value in magic. They’re obviously linked with intelligence and wisdom. Many cultures also associate them as the seat of the soul. And, of course, any body part has profound significance when it comes to necromantic potential. Figure out how to weaponize all three at once – by, say, causing an arcane short circuit and sudden energy release – and you have yourself a potent one-time attack.
Fortunately for everybody concerned, a Brain Bomb doesn’t do physical damage, although it’s again disgusting and probably a good way to catch a nasty disease; when ‘detonated,’ the ‘only’ thing that happens is that everyone within twenty feet gets slapped with a shock wave of pure necromantic energy that either knocks you off of your feet, makes you start vomiting, or both. The wielder of the Brain Bomb is not immune to the effects, which is why typically Brain Bombs are put in a bag and thrown very, very hard. The bag also helps with clean-up.
A little. Has the word ‘disgusting’ been used yet? – Because ‘disgusting’ definitely applies, here. Hoo, boy, yes. Just the smell…
