God help me, they’re rebooting Jay and Silent Bob.

And God help me, but I’ll probably watch it.

The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will start filming this fall, Kevin Smith himself has revealed. The movie will unite Smith with Jason Mewes, serving as a belated sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The plot will see Jay and Bob on a mission to Hollywood once more: this time, they’re aiming to halt the production of Bluntman Vs Chronic, a dark and gritty reboot that will pit their superhero doppelgangers against one another.

It is absolutely a New Jersey thing, yes.  And yes, Kevin Smith movies have been pretty bad lately.  But they also largely weren’t Jay and Silent Bob movies, either.  I’m pretty much stuck here; there are cultural obligations in place.

No, I guess that I honestly don’t expect any of this to make any sense to anybody reading this, either.

Marvel’s gaze across its intellectual property field falls upon Richard Rider’s Nova.

I admit: I only dimly remember this comic.  Then again, I also only dimly remembered Star-Lord, which didn’t stop Marvel Comics from giggling like a loon as all the lovely money came pouring in. So get ready for the next Great Harvesting Of The Back Issues:

Writer and director James Gunn is not only returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and executive producing Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s also helping plan out the long-term future of the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or at least, the next 10-20 years worth! And for you Nova fans out there, yes, he and Marvel Studios are indeed considering introducing the “real” Nova, Richard Rider.

Anna Diop cast as Starfire.

Not familiar with the actress, but what clips there are of her suggests that Anna Diop can act.  Really, the issue is with how they write the character.  I pretty much want Starfire to be the Starfire from the first, actually good, Teen Titans animated show; and I’m, and going to stay, unreasonable about this.

Tremors SyFy project gets a director.

Vincenzo Natali, who I’ve never heard of despite the fact that he did Hannibal — but not the movie Hannibal; the TV Hannibal that I literally just stopped whining about. Also, there’s this: “In the Tremors follow-up, written by Andrew Miller, the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, NV, 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.”  I’m going to stop you right here: can we have this tragic and dramatic backstory up on the screen for about, oh, say ten minutes or so?  Because this should be a show about giant man-eating worms. Eyes on the prize, Mr. Natali. Eyes on the prize.

DC wants to do a Joker origin story.

…Umm, OK?

Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman Universe spinoff movie, this one telling the origin story of the signature villain The Joker. The studio has set The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips to co-write a script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, and Martin Scorsese will produce it with Phillips. This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.

Did you know that they wanted to reboot Xena? And now they’re not.

So, whatever your first reaction was to that news, you can safely put it on hold.

NBC is no longer going forward its planned Xena: Warrior Princess reboot, according to THR. The show was originally to have been written by Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost). Today NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke told the site that the reboot in its current form is no longer happening.

They want to do an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. …Yay?

I’m… ah.  Well. I guess that this is the straightforward play.

Stephen Daldry is Star Wars’ newest hope.

The Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in early talks to direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Sources say talks are at the earliest of stages and that the project has no script. If a deal makes, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass.

Doctor Strange is definitely in Thor: Ragnarok.

At least, that’s what the international trailer is telling me.

Via ComingSoon. I persist in having an irrational hope for this one. It looks like it’s gonna be evocative of 1970s metal with heavy comic elements, which is good.  Kind of heavy metal, in other words — and in both senses of the term. Plus, hey, magic stuff that might even justify going to see it in 3D.
