…Which last reminds me: I am an Amazon affiliate.

If you Christmas shop at Amazon via this link, you put money in my pocket at no cost to you. Which is always true about Amazon links generally.  I don’t bring it up, much, but it is Christmas time and people are gonna shop anyway.

PS: If you don’t want to give me money I’m pretty sure that there’s still somebody else out there more to your tastes who wouldn’t mind the affiliate traffic, either. Or who might just really, really need it. I’m pretty blessed, honestly.

So, the Tremors TV series is going to get done by Amazon.

I would be swearing right now, except that it’s being produced by Kevin Bacon (who will, naturally, also starring in it).  That’s the good news.  The contentious news is that they’re going to be calling upon the great god Retcon, apparently:

As many of you may already know, Tremors has continued to exist in the form of straight-to-DVD productions. Unfortunately, Bacon never returned for any of them. Instead, Fred Ward and Michael Gross would make several appearances. Bacon’s character in the movie was touched upon in a quick life update, but nothing would evolve from it. In this new series, Bacon plans on putting the stories of the DVDs aside.

Check your Amazon.com accounts for a settlement!

Seriously. Check here to see if you got a piece of a settlement that Apple got smacked with over e-books. Essentially, Apple colluded with most of the major print publishers to keep e-book prices up, and they got hammered in civil court over it, to the tune of four hundred million.  So if you bought e-books between 2010 and 2012, there may be some money going your way.  I certainly got a nice surprise this morning.

Sports Authority: killed by Amazon and minimum wage increases.

I’m more or less quoting analyst Phil Lempert in the title there.

“With the minimum wage going up to $15 an hour and more people turning to online shopping, more stores are going to close,” Lempert said. “It’s fine to say that everyone should have a living wage. But the money has to come from somewhere.”

Lempert said a growing number of retail outlets have fallen victim to “showrooming,” where customers will walk into a store, try on the shirt or jacket they like and then order it online at a significant discount.

“These stores have to look at not at how they will compete with other brick-and-mortar stores, but how they will compete with Amazon,” he said. “It’s become a holistic environment where people can buy things on their mobile phones and then have the products delivered by the time they get home.”

So I think that they just made Amazon Associates linking LESS useful.

Used to be when I generated a link, it would create HTML that had both the link

http://www.amazon.com/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll2&tag=webloglicenti-20&linkId=42e28eccdf13841580909e41fdaf7762

and the text to the link.

Amazon.com.

Now it just generates the link.  I can understand having an option where you can just have the link; but why would they take away my ability to create the text at the same time? It’s just giving me a bit more work to do.

Grr. This is not a great time for experimentation, Amazon. It’s just not.

My traditional cheerfully mercenary post-Christmas reminder.

Did you get Amazon gift cards? Great. YOU SHOULD TOTALLY CLICK THROUGH HERE and spend them.  Heck, check out the Prime Video 30-Day Free Trial thing that they’re doing. I get extra this week for flogging that one.

…What?  Did the title not say ‘cheerfully mercenary?’ Besides, it’s not like I don’t have Amazon Prime (including video). The two-day free shipping alone pays for itself.

Just a reminder: five days left to order from Amazon…

…and have it show up in time for Christmas.  And yes, I have absolutely no shame.  Or rather, I am not ashamed to rattle the Amazon tip jar, given that people need to buy all this stuff for Christmas anyway and I don’t mind catching some of the drippings.  After all, it doesn’t hurt my readers in the slightest.

Moe Lane

PS: Even if you’re just a lurker who dislikes me, you should keep in mind that somebody that you do like is probably rattling a tip jar right now.  And if he or she is on the Left, he or she is undoubtedly having to scramble for every dime, because the Online Left has a remarkable number of cheapskates. So  I guess that what I’m saying is, you should maybe give your ideological compatriots a Christmas present?  ‘Tis the season, and all that.
