Barack Obama repays Harry Reid’s loyalty with a calculated insult.

How absolutely brilliant of the President: “The White House on Tuesday threatened to veto an emerging deal that would restore several lapsed tax breaks, bringing into the open tensions between President Obama and the top Senate Democrat.”  I need hardly note that this is not actually ‘brilliant’ of President Obama, yes? – In fact, it’s a little petulant, and dumb.  It’s also demonstrating that Harry Reid turns out to have a noticeably tin ear, as well: from where I’m sitting, getting a veto override on this one wouldn’t be that problematical.  Reid only needs about half of his caucus to follow him to get that override, after all.

Ach, well, I guess that we’ll have to do things the hard way.  That’s all on Barack Obama, mind you.

PS: The actual tax credits and whatnot are almost irrelevant in this context, but I will note that if Obama does veto this deal and it doesn’t get overridden then we will have an excellent chance at killing wind subsidies once, and for all – and that the Republican party can in no way be blamed for that happening.  So, hey, win-win for me.

Chuck Schumer quietly starts distancing Democrats from Obama for 2016.

I’m just going to summarize it: Senator Chuck Schumer today ever-so-casually indicated that working first on Obamacare was a mistake; that, in fact, Congress should have instead worked on pretty much anything else besides Obamacare; and that Sen. Schumer himself opposed starting first on Obamacare, but all those Obama supporters in the Obama administration were so adamant that Obamacare be put in place right away.  Also: how about that absent-from-the-Obamacare-debate Hillary Clinton, huh?  You know what her middle name isn’t?  That’s right: Obamacare.

I’m being mean, I know*.  But if Chuck Schumer is useful for any one thing it’s in determining just how toxic a politician and/or government program can be.  Based on this article, Barack Obama and his signature** political accomplishment are quite toxic indeed.  And it’s not even 2015 yet!  If Barack Obama’s a lame duck now, imagine how useless he’s going to be a year from now***. There’s actually a pretty big silver lining in that Obamacare cloud.

This AoSHQ piece from a couple of days ago actually makes me a bit chipper.  Why? Because of that Gallup graph.

You see, it’s an interesting thing: since 2000, Gallup has been polling on the question on whether or not Americans think that the federal government has the responsibility to ensure health care coverage. In 2009, the breakdown for that was 54/41; and today the number is… 56/42. Well, more accurately, it’s 42/56. Because back when Barack Obama took office a majority of the American people were happy to have the government involved in ensuring health care access; and now that the government has a majority of the American people would like the government to stop now, please.

Oh, this will be fun.

Almost since the start of Barack Obama’s presidency, people who have actual, real duties in the West Wing of the White House—the working, executive part of the government, that is—have been urging him to do something about Valerie Jarrett. Push her into the East Wing, where she can hang out with Michelle Obama and the White House social secretary, or give her an ambassadorship—or something—but for Pete’s sake get her out of the way of the hard work of governing that needs to be done.

Rep. Eliot Engel (D, New York) now futilely regrets the Obamabargain his party made.

The grownups in the Democratic party – oh, yes, there’s one or two – are starting to get tired of having to deal with a White House that always messes up, and never learns.

Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, hit the Obama administration on Wednesday over an official calling the Israeli prime minister a “chickensh[*]t.”

“I was shocked and disappointed on reading the comments in The Atlantic,” Engel said in a statement. “I call upon the Administration to reassert the importance of the relationship between the United States and Israel, and to reaffirm that the bonds between our two countries are unbreakable.”

So immigration activists really *are* going to go after Barack Obama over this.

Will wonders never cease.

The President apparently told Ms. Lopez to go yell at the Republicans. …Yeah, good luck with that one, Barack Obama. This is not a situation where Ms. Lopez – and the people who think as she does on immigration issues – needs to be persuaded to vote for the Democrat over the Republican. No, this is a situation where Ms. Lopez needs to be persuaded to vote at all.

AP-GfK: 9% of voters enthusiastic about Barack Obama.

Ouch.

[A recent] AP-GfK poll asked the approve/disapprove question, finding 17 percent of likely voters said they strongly approve of Obama and 44 percent strongly disapprove. But then it asked a separate — and we would argue, more enlightening — question about the Obama administration. It asked how people felt about it, and gave them four options: “enthusiastic,” “satisfied but not enthusiastic,” “dissatisfied but not angry,” and “angry.”

That would seem to be a pretty good analogue for the approve/disapprove question, but the answers are quite a bit different. While 17 percent of likely voters “strongly approve” of Obama, just 9 percent say they are “enthusiastic” about his administration.

Courtesy of Freedom Partners Action Fund, this is part of a $6.5 million ad buy hitting Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire (online only), and North Carolina. Which is good news, but I have to ask something: how, in God’s name, can anybody look at this and not see it as speech? Just how ignorant do the professional scaremongers of the Democratic party think that we are that we might not recognize that the ability to say This politician is a fool; do not vote for fools is the bedrock of the First Amendment? What are they scared of?
