02/18/2020 Book Report.

Four more chapters getting revised and fiddled with. That leaves… twenty to go. I might need to speed this up a little.

In other news, still trying to track down a copy-editor. My sister is a graphic designer, though, so she’s looking for one for me, too. What’s that? Why didn’t I contract her for a book cover? Why, that’s an excellent question, really. Fortunately, I can answer it with the next book cover, no worries.

Revisions, revisions! Revisions!
Revisions, revisions! Revisions!
Who, day and night, must scribble and then fiddle,
Fix a line and passage, check his scattered notes?
And who has to fight, as writer of the book,
To save the darlings in his tome?
The Author, the Author! Revisions.
The Author, the Author! Revisions.

PS: Four chapters done.

02/16/2020 Book Report.

Took advantage of the car ride back home to work out a few details in the plot where stuff would just work better if done a different way. Some of this from the beta readers, some of it was from my wife, some of it was on my own. I figure that this week I spend polishing it up, giving it to my wife again to go-through — and then leave it alone. I could spend the next five years working on this manuscript, but after a certain point you have to go on with what you have.

Backdated and a little late: but then, not much to report today. And probably not much happening on the technical end until next week, either. I’m getting ready to make revisions to the draft, and after that… welp, I can start reaching out to people I know that might look kindly upon requests to read and possibly blurb. Which I get is normal practice, but it feels kind of weird.

Mostly today we’re at a stage where the cover art might get inked soon. I’m liking what I’m seeing so far, and I’m looking forward to showing people it. I also will start clearing my throat in the directions of the beta readers in a couple of days, but that’s more of a reminder than anything else. After all, they’re doing it out of the kindness of their hearts.

Bye day. No particular reason, I’m just not feeling it today. I don’t even mind. As my wife pointed out to me, I’ve been writing daily for a long time; I can take a day or two off. So I more or less did.

Also, I’m waiting for people to email me back (starting to look around for a copy-editor). Maybe I should have been clearer that I was budgeting for actually paying somebody real money for it? I’ve been assuming that saying “I can pay” would be enough to get people’s attention — it’d get mine — but maybe not.

Tonight… I go to an authors’ thing at the local library. I think that it’s time that I start doing things like that. If I want to be a better writer, then I should communicate with other writers, right? And I figure that goes both ways: I might have something to say that other people might find interesting.

Or something like that. Honestly, I was expecting to be more resistant to doing this sort of thing. Ego, you understand. I have one.
